Retirement Planning
Retirement Planning
We recently worked with a client who was unsure if they could retire immediately or would need to keep working. They had built a strong financial foundation with multiple rental properties and a pension from a previous employer, but they wanted clarity on whether these assets would support their desired lifestyle. Their biggest goal was to continue travelling while they still had the health and energy to enjoy it fully.
To provide that clarity, we gathered a complete picture of their finances, including income, expenses, rental properties, pension, CPP, OAS, and investment accounts. Using conservative assumptions, we projected future growth and applied tax-efficient strategies to ensure their savings could be drawn down in the most effective way. This gave the client a realistic and confident plan for retirement.
The outcome was immediate relief and excitement. They could see clearly that they had more than enough resources to retire comfortably, maintain their travel lifestyle, and enjoy a flexible schedule. Going forward, we will continue to review and update the plan as their needs evolve, ensuring they remain on track to enjoy life to the fullest with confidence and financial security.
Buying a First Home
Buying a First Home
We recently worked with a client who had just graduated from university and started their first full-time job, earning a strong income. Like many recent graduates, they were balancing student debt with the desire to stop renting and purchase their first home. They had some savings in RRSPs but weren’t sure how to allocate their funds most effectively to reach their goal.
To help them, we opened a First Home Savings Account (FHSA) and maximized contributions to take full advantage of its tax-free growth. We also incorporated the RRSP Home Buyers’ Plan, carefully coordinating both accounts to ensure the client could access funds efficiently and stay on track with their savings goals.
The result was a successful first home purchase. By combining the FHSA and the Home Buyers’ Plan, the client made a significant down payment and transitioned from renting to homeownership. They now have an asset that will grow in value over time while using their income to build equity, giving them a solid financial foundation and confidence as they begin this next chapter.
Group Benefit Plan
Group Benefit Plan
A large franchise association was looking for a way to provide employee benefits across its network while recognizing that each franchise is independently owned and operated. Traditional group benefit plans proved difficult, as some locations had only two employees and would not qualify, while others had larger teams with diverse needs ranging from single individuals to families. Without a collective approach, costs would have been much higher and many franchise owners would have been left without an effective solution.
To address this challenge, we introduced an association benefit plan. Unlike a standard group plan, the association model allowed each franchise to select coverage levels that suited their unique workforce while still benefiting from shared buying power. Multiple tiers of coverage were offered, enabling each location to tailor its plan without sacrificing affordability. By pooling together under the association structure, all members were able to access consistent rates that kept premiums lower than if each franchise sought coverage independently.
The result was nine satisfied franchises spanning across British Columbia and Alberta, each equipped with a benefits package suited to its team’s needs. Owners gained peace of mind knowing they could attract and retain employees with competitive benefits, while employees appreciated the flexibility and coverage provided. Most importantly, the association plan struck the right balance between customization and cost savings, ensuring long-term sustainability for the entire network.
